My relationship with the Virgin is indescribable

Guy Emile Goulian Kalou Bi is a movie star in the Ivory Coast and a great promoter of cinematic arts. Raised in a Catholic family, the 43-year-old Ivorian feels that he owes everything to God: “Looking at my background and the place I have in the movie world, I am convinced that only God is the source,” he testifies. “Being in show business has never undermined my faith in God passed on by my late parents from an early age.”

The actor particularly has a great devotion to the Virgin Mary. “I have always had a Marian grotto at home since I was a student,” he says. “When I pray the Rosary, I really feel in touch with God through the Virgin Mary. She is my mother, and of course I turn to her for help, and I have never been disappointed. My relationship with the Virgin is indescribable and I have many testimonies on the effectiveness of her intercession in my life.”

His wife Victoire Kalou is also a practicing Catholic. The movie “What if God Did Not Exist?” (2012), a fictional Christian drama, was her idea. Both sides of this film have been highly appreciated by thousands of faithful in Abidjan and across the country. For this film, Guy Kalou was awarded the 2015 Jury Prize at the Vues d'Afrique festival in Montreal.

Since 2015, Guy Kalou has passed on his knowledge of the big screen to students at a higher education institution where he is the director of the Film and Audiovisual Specialties School.
