A sovereign remedy in this month of October

The month of October is the month of the Rosary, this Marian prayer of which Pope Benedict XII (d.1730) said: "The Rosary is the sovereign remedy for errors and vices."

The prayer of the Rosary is often prayed with the help of an object also called a “rosary.” The prayer consists of four sets of prayers following four general aspects of the life of Christ, called mysteries (here the word ‘mystery’ refers to a truth of the faith, not to something incomprehensible). Each set is meditated upon with Hail Marys grouped in series of 10 called “decades.” Each set of mysteries is usually prayed on different days during the week, as follows:

Monday and Saturday, the joyful mysteries: the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Presentation, the Finding of Jesus in the Temple;

Tuesday and Friday, the sorrowful mysteries: the Agony of Jesus at Gethsemane, the Scourging, the Crowning with thorns, the bearing of the Cross, the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus;

Wednesday and Sunday, the glorious mysteries: the Resurrection, the Ascension, the Pentecost, the Assumption of the Virgin, the Coronation of the Virgin;

Thursday, the luminous mysteries: the Baptism of Jesus, the Wedding at Cana, the Proclamation of the Kingdom of God, the Transfiguration of Jesus, the Institution of the Holy Eucharist.
