August 30 – Santa Maria de Cárquere (Portugal)

Mary is the teacher that Jesus gave me

We all wish to bring as much as we can—the best of ourselves—to our spiritual life, but we experience our weaknesses daily. This is precisely where the Good Lord waits for us and shows us his tenderness. The episode of the wedding at Cana helps us to understand this.

At Cana, Jesus did not operate alone. He said, "Fill these jars with water." We can all bring some water, at least a few drops. In the end, Jesus turns all this water into a delicious wine. My “water” is everything that makes up my life, with its qualities and its defects. That’s what interests God!

Mary is my Mother. Jesus allowed that through her, the miracle of the transformation of all these things (the “water” of our lives) would be able to take place. Mary is the teacher that Jesus gave me to become like Him. She tells me: "Do whatever he tells you." And by obeying, by bringing my “water,” which Jesus commands me to bring, it is His capital of grace earned by the merits of His Passion and Resurrection that I allow to be made fruitful for my own salvation and sanctification.

Every drop of water is transformed into delicious wine, a symbol of festivity and joy! Thus everything in me is called to be transformed if I allow myself to be educated by Mary.
