November 15 – The 6th of Heddar, Feast of Quesquam (Ethiopia) – Byzantine Church: Our Lady of Piety

What is the secret of holiness?

Mary had a sense of peace and of harmony. … Mostly she possessed the art of having good relationships with people. She exercised this art with patience and gentleness. When you are in the middle of a conflict, call on Mary and ask her for advice. She will teach you self-control.

Having self-control comes down to getting ourselves organized. It is using the gifts we have received—with all our happy or less happy experiences—to make a life pleasing to God. It means being dynamic and acting with determination when needed, but also being gentle and humble of heart. It is to be demanding of ourselves, but patient and kind with others.

And when you will have sought Mary’s presence throughout the day and lived under her gaze, trying to imitate her, at the end of the day you will be able to tell God with joy and a hint of humor: "Lord I did what I could, now do the rest!" The secret of holiness, which is compatible with a balanced and happy life even though suffering may be present, is living with Mary in our hearts!
