November 7 - Our Lady of the Pond (Dijon, France, 1531)

The Miraculous Birth of King Louis XIV "God-Given" (II)

Six days later, on 3rd November towards 2 o'clock a.m., the pious brother, alone in his cell, was disturbed from his prayers by the cries of a child. He was astonished and frightened to find himself in front of the Virgin Mary who showed him a crying baby in her arms. "Don't be afraid," she said, "I am the Mother of God, and the baby whom you see is the prince that God wants to give to France." The vision disappeared only to return again for a short moment, but without further words. Two hours later, Mary reappeared alone. She said, "Dispel any doubts in what you have told your confessor. To show you that I want the Queen to make these three novenas to me, here is the same picture that is found at Our Lady of Graces in Provence, and a drawing of the church." At that instant Brother Fiacre saw the painting in precise detail as well as the chancel where it was and still can be seen today. Alerted by him, his superiors, who, like him had never been to Cotignac, consulted friends who had made the pilgrimage. The description given by the brother corresponded exactly! On 5th November, an official report was drawn up and signed by the entire Augustinian community, and sent to Cardinal de la Rochefoucauld, since these three novenas had become a matter of State.
