June 17 – Revelation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to Margaret Mary Alacoque (France, 1689)

Fatima, France and the key to peace in the world

In August 1931, during a period of rest and convalescence in Rianjo, a small town near Pontevedra, Spain, the Lord complained to Sister Lucia of Fatima about the lack of response concerning the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

"They did not want to listen to my request! Like the King of France, they will be sorry for not having acted, and they will do it, but it will be too late. Russia has already spread her errors around the world, causing wars and persecutions against the Church. The Holy Father will have much to suffer.”

But why this reference to the King of France? Simply because in 1689, when Jesus revealed his Sacred Heart to Saint Margaret Mary, he also made an important request:

"Tell the eldest son of my Sacred Heart (it was then King Louis XIV) that, as his temporal birth was obtained by the devotion to the merits of my Holy Childhood, so he will obtain his birth to eternal glory by his consecration to my adorable Heart. My heart wants to reign in his palace, to be painted on his banners, and engraved in his arms, to make them victorious over all his enemies and those of the holy Church. My Father wants to use the King for the execution of his plan, which is the construction of a public building where the painting of my Heart will be placed to receive the homage of all France."

Our Lord thus promised France, his "eldest daughter," a powerful protection by means of three things: that the Sacred Heart be put on the King's arms and the banners of France; that a national church be raised to him; and that in this church France would solemnly be consecrated to him by the king. Louis XIV did nothing, and 100 years later to the day, after the message of June 17, 1689, which remained unanswered, the Third Estate proclaimed the National Constituent Assembly and overthrew the French monarchy through bloodshed and terror.
