April 14 – Palm Sunday – Our Lady of the Lakes (Italy, 1652)

Mary, God’s first collaborator

The Virgin Mary is more than the mother of a prophet of salvation. With Jesus, salvation is not just a promise, it is already there! Jesus brings the Father's love for all his children. For Redemption consists above all in believing in the merciful and unconditional love of God manifested in Jesus Christ.

As He himself said to those who asked him how they could collaborate in God’s works: "The work of God is that you believe in him whom he has sent." (Jn 6:29)

By making her heroic acts of faith, at the Annunciation and throughout the public ministry of her Son, up until she stood at the foot of the Cross, Mary is the first collaborator in the Savior's work.

On Holy Saturday, while Creation is in mourning for the Creator whom it has just expelled, the Virgin alone supports the universe unaware of its sacrilegious action. Her involvement goes well beyond giving birth and educating Jesus. Her faith is part of the Redemption of the world.
