A minibus with nine people in a ravine ...

The family was returning from a pilgrimage to Lourdes (France). The way that their trip ended is nothing short of a miracle. At 8 pm on Sunday, July 17, 2017, their minibus with nine people on board, including seven children aged 11 months to 17 years, fell into a ravine in the Hautes-Pyrénées, coming to a halt about 30 feet below.

According to La Dépêche du Midi, the local newspaper, the accident occurred on the D920 departmental road, a few kilometers from Cauterets where the family was vacationing. The driver possibly fell asleep at the wheel and then missed a turn.

The minibus finished its fall in the yard of the only house of the Gorge of Pierrefitte. All its occupants were able to leave by their own means before calling for help.

The fire unit brought large equipment to rescue the family, but decided to only take the two youngest children to the nearest hospital for medical checks. Thank you Our Lady of Lourdes!
