Septembre 2 – Our Lady of the Nettles (Germany, 1441)

All this happened as a result of praying to Our Lady

As Saint Bernard used to say, "De Maria nunquam satis,"-- "Of Mary, one can never say enough.” I have always had a particular devotion and veneration for her. I will never forget an event that occurred in 1956 when I was still a seminarian:

While I was on vacation in a village, in my home region of Sarandira, Brazil, I participated one day in a procession of Our Lady of Fatima with a nursing home. Many elderly residents walked with us. Suddenly the sky grew very dark and a strong storm threatened to break out at any moment. I begged the Mother of God to protect us, and we were able to reach the church, which was still far away, just minutes before a true deluge came crashing down!

As we finished reciting the Rosary and prepared to exit the church to go back to the nursing home, the heavy rain stopped. I was able to reassure everyone, saying in true belief: “We have enough time to get back to our homes before the rain returns.” All this happened as a result of our prayers to Our Lady, Mother of God and our Mother.
