May 6 – Our Lady of Saint John (Italy, 1658)

Spend more time with the Mother of Jesus!

At the beginning of May 2015, Pope Francis exhorted the baptized to trust in the intercession of the Virgin Mary, Mother of God, during the general audience of Wednesday, May 6, in Saint Peter's Square. His exhortation is more relevant than ever in early May 2017!

The Pope invites pilgrims to "renew" their "love for the Mother of Jesus" and "spend a little more time with her" in this month of May, during which she is traditionally honored: "Bring to her all your intentions with confidence," the pope exhorted.

The Pope sees in Mary, the Mother of God, a particularly important support for the young, the sick and the newly married, as he said in Italian at the end of the audience:

"Last Friday we began the Marian month. May the Mother of God, dear young people, be your refuge in the most difficult moments; may she sustain you, dear sick people, in facing with courage your daily cross and may she be your reference point, dear newlyweds, so that your family may be a domestic source of prayer and mutual understanding."
