January 25 – Our Lady of the Good Journey (India, 1599) – Transfer of the Virgin’s funeral shroud to Constantinople (452)

Why does she come to warn us?

The 20th century is marked by Marian apparitions: from the best known such as Fatima, to the least publicized like Kibeho (Rwanda) or Akita (Japan). Why has the Virgin Mary been so present in our midst since the 20th century?

Father René Laurentin—born on October 19, 1917, six days after the last apparition of the Virgin Mary in Fatima—has traveled the world to investigate these supernatural events. He asserts that many of these apparitions were an urgent appeal to our world that is heading towards self-destruction.

"There are very serious situations in the world today. There are therefore many reasons why the Virgin Mary appears and comes to warn us," he said. "The world has rejected God. People casually surrender to sin. It is as if we were cutting off the branch of the tree on which we are sitting.

Today we are experiencing the consequences of this situation. The world is destroying itself through sin. We cannot get out of this situation on our own. The Virgin calls us to return to what really matters; she invites us to prayer and conversion. She tells us that God exists and that we should turn to Him."
