August 7 – Feast of Our Lady of the Kings (Seville, Spain)

"Mercy in the heart of Mary"

In an interview published by France Catholique, Bishop Albert Marie de Monléon, Bishop Emeritus of Meaux, answered this question: "Some reporters have written that Pope Francis’ recent pilgrimage to Fatima, in May 2017, was a sort of Marian culmination of the Jubilee of Mercy. In your opinion, what place do you think that Mary held at each Congress of Mercy?"

A: As soon as we talk about mercy, the Virgin Mary has an important role. She is the Mother of Mercy. The Holy Curé of Ars said: "In the heart of the Blessed Virgin, there is only mercy." In the 12th century, a great French theologian on charity, Richard de Saint-Victor, wrote: "Mary became the Mother of God for the purpose of bringing mercy into the world. The ultimate purpose of God, the raison d'être of all his works, is mercy, and Mary is the most complete realization of that mercy."

Pope Francis wrote in Misericordiae Vultus (The Face of Mercy): "No one has penetrated the profound mystery of the incarnation like Mary. Her entire life was patterned after the presence of mercy made flesh." (#24).
