When tempted, pronounce the names of Jesus and Mary

Of all devotions, none is so pleasing to our mother, as appealing frequently to her intercession, by asking help of her in all special necessities, as in taking or giving counsel, in dangers, afflictions, and temptations, particularly in temptations against purity. The divine mother will certainly deliver us if we have recourse to her with the

Antiphon: We fly to thy patronage: "Sub tuum presidium," etc, or with a "Hail Mary," or only invoking the most holy name of Mary, which has particular power against demons. The blessed St Francis, in a temptation against purity, had recourse to Mary, and she immediately appeared to him, and placing her hand upon his breast,

delivered him. It is useful to kiss or press the rosary, or the scapular, or even to look at some image of the Virgin. And it should be known that Benedict XIII granted fifty days’ indulgence to those who pronounce the name of Jesus and Mary.
